About DVLC
DVLC is a once-weekly nature-based enrichment program for homeschool families. Our approach draws on frameworks like Barefoot and Balanced, Timbernook, and 1000 Hours Outside — child-led play, nature as the primary classroom, and healthy outdoor risk-taking.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a mixed-age class of 12–14 students, working alongside other Lead Teachers and their classrooms throughout the day
- Facilitate the weekly Gather 'Round academic block using theme-based content (open and go content, provided), paced by the day's material rather than a fixed clock
- Oversee Art / Free Build or the Junior High Skills Mastery Rotation, and other free-time blocks, for your pod
- Plan session flow around weather, available spaces (lap desks, pavilion, cabins), and the day's theme, as a team with other lead teachers.
- For Junior High: guide students through seasonal skill mastery — fire-building, navigation, wilderness first aid, and similar — assessing to mastery rather than completion
- Support students in outdoor physical and social risk-taking
- Be a warm, welcoming presence
- Communicate with families about their child's day and development
- Help lead special/theme days (Creek Day, Cartography Day, Snow Day, etc.) alongside other pods
Qualifications
- Willingness to read and sign the Statement of Faith & Lifestyle Covenant annually, as a condition of employment
- Experience with mixed-age children in an outdoor, play-based, or experiential setting
- Comfortable with flexible, emergent curriculum
