About DVLC
DVLC is a once-weekly nature-based enrichment program for homeschool families. Our approach draws on frameworks like Barefoot and Balanced, Timbernook, and 1000 Hours Outside — child-led play, nature as the primary classroom, and healthy outdoor risk-taking.
Key Responsibilities
- Support supervision and safety across all blocks: arrival, Gather 'Round, Art/Free Build, lunch and free play, and Camp Activity
- Help run station-based Camp Activities (archery, climbing wall, canoe sessions, etc.)
- Assist the Lead Teacher with materials, transitions, and small-group support
- Provide extra supervision for higher-risk activities (water, tools, fire-based skills)
- Help lead whole-group activities on special/theme days as needed
Qualifications
- Willingness to read and sign the Statement of Faith & Lifestyle Covenant annually, as a condition of employment
- Comfortable supervising children outdoors in varied weather and terrain
- Able to work under a Lead Teacher's direction while using independent judgment during station-based activities
- First aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- No prior teaching credential required — a good fit for someone newer to youth work with enthusiasm for outdoor, hands-on learning
Good Fit If You
- Like being active and hands-on outdoors
- Are comfortable with unstructured stretches of the day
